BUS SHELTERS COMMITTEE
Minutes of the inaugural meeting of the Bus Shelters Committee held at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 11 September 2001 at The Institute.
Present were Councillors Chambers, Lewis, Warrick and the clerk. There were no apologies for absence.
001 ELECTION OF CHAIR
It was unanimously resolved to elect Councillor Lewis as Chair of this committee.
002 CORRESPONDENCE
- Confirmation from Cornhill Insurance that £1,527 remains outstanding from the successful claim against the damaged shelter on Broadgate Lane. Noted and added to the agreed budget of £5,000 for this financial year.
- Letter from a resident concerned about the replacement of the damaged shelter. Agreed to recommend that this location should have priority.
- Advice from S.K.D.C. that the other shelter on Broadgate Lane has a life expectancy of six months. Agreed to recommend that this shelter be treated as a priority in this financial year.
- Advice from S.K.D.C. that the Council’s remaining shelter on Horsegate near Benedict Court is reaching the end of its useful life. Agreed to recommend that this shelter be replaced in the next financial year.
- Notification of grant assistance from put together for shelters in the six locations mentioned; three to be installed in this financial year with the following three early in the next financial year, subject to acceptable quotations being approved and consents to erect obtained from the Highways Authority.
- The specification to be as follows:
- Polycarbonate glazing panels to be used (for prevention of vandalism).
- Other parts of the structure to be in a dark green colour.
- Barrel-style roof (for prevention of vandalism).
- Shelters to be enclosed on all sides with two entrance/exits unless location will only permit a standard cantilever-style of shelter.
- Seating to be provided.
- Information Board to be provided which will contain a route diagram and times of buses.
- Flag post attachment to be provided to enable bus companies to fit their bus stop signs.
- Size of shelter to be determined according to the volume of use (in practice, either 3m or 4m long).
- No electrical supply /lighting.
- Shelters to be personalised to ‘Deeping St James Parish Council’.
- The clerk should liase with Lincolnshire County Council regarding the provision of bus stops, similar to those provided in the Spalding area, at other locations to create a uniform visual identity throughout the parish.
004 PROGRAMME FOR FUTURE YEARS
The committee proposes that the provision of bus shelters be treated as a rolling-programme and that:
- The clerk should liase with bus operators to identify other potential locations and where agreed, a suitable shelter is provided from a capital budget set aside annually.
- Provision is made in the annual precept for a maintenance budget.
